About the Programme
The Centre for Learning and Teaching has prepared nine workshop titles, including six new titles and three re-run titles, to all teaching staff in the first regular workshop programme of this academic year. With the rapid development and use of the Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) approach in vocational and professional education and training (VPET) sector, five titles are provided in the areas of “Enabling e-Learning”. The workshop of “Using Technology Enhanced Learning in Vocational Training” provides an overview on the development of TEL in VPET and introduces strategies to formulate TEL. The workshops of “iSpring uSpring”, “Develop Eye-catching Graphics for Teaching” and “DIY website for Interactive Learning” are suitable for those who look for the latest software and applications know-how for developing e-Learning materials and activities. The workshop of “Nurturing Students' Information Literacy Skills for Effective Learning” is catering for the teaching staff who want to develop their information literacy skills so as to surf on network and obtain useful information for learning and teaching.
Other than e-Learning, three titles are prepared in the area of “Professional Development”. Some colleagues may have learnt about DISC Personality System, but would like to know its application in education especially in the classroom setting. In the workshop of “Preparing Lessons by using DISC Personality SystemTM”, teaching staff could learn how to prepare lessons by applying the behavioural model, DISC personality systemTM to better cater for students' needs. Building rapport is an important factor to enhance teaching effectiveness. The workshop of “Building Positive Teacher-Student Relationships” provides teaching staff with a platform to reflect on the ways to build relationship with students and to apply practical skills to help students to face their own issues. In addition, the workshop of “Effective Coaching Skills for Teachers to Enhance Student Performance” provides techniques in coaching student, as well as the way to develop a coaching plan for learning and teaching.
Last but not the least, the workshop of “A Survival Kit for Classroom Management” is provided in the area of “Enhancing Teaching Skills”. Some classroom management principles and strategies to deal with misbehaved students are introduced. Tips for effective classroom management are also shared.
