Learning and Teaching Expo 2019

The Learning and Teaching Expo is Hong Kong's annual signature education event. This year the Expo celebrated its tenth anniversary, and VTC was pleasured to be its Strategic Partner for the third consecutive year. The three-day event was held from 11 to 13 December at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Taking the organising role, Centre for Learning and Teaching (CLT) drove the concerted effort of different operational units to make our participation a success.

Showcasing Innovation and Versatile Application in Learning and Teaching

VTC embraces professionalism and innovation in learning and teaching. Under the theme of “Innovative Learning‧Versatile Application”, we showcased the VR Anatomy Learning System of Applied Science Discipline, the 3D Virtual Fitting Fashion Kiosk of Design Discipline, and the Swimming Pool Game App of Hospitality Discipline. We also introduced the learning approach of Project-based Learning of Youth College (International), the features of Workplace Learning and Assessment and the programme of Professional Certificate of Vocational and Professional Education and Training. Our booths attracted both local and worldwide visitors, and they were amazed by the engaging, interesting and professional facilities and approaches we adopted in learning and teaching.

Professional Exchange at Workplace Learning Theatre

There were a total of three seminars and two workshops at the Workplace Learning Theatre on the third day of the Expo. In view of the arising topic of applied education recently, we invited Ms Renee Ho, the Policy Researcher of Our Hong Kong Foundation to share her insight on “Applied Education - A Paradigm Shift in Education for the Digital Age” in the morning. Our industry partner, Mr Rocky Lau, the Service Manager of ATAL Building Services Engineering Ltd., together with Mr Jonathan Lee, the Deputy Academic Director of Engineering Discipline spoke to us on the topic of “Nurturing Skilled Talent through Workplace Learning and Assessment”. Many educators are interested to know how project-based learning is implemented in curriculum, therefore, Dr Kelvin Tam, the Programme Leader of Youth College (International) shared his valuable experience and practical tips with the audience on “Project-based Learning in Vocational and Professional Education and Training”. It was time to have some hands-on activities in the afternoon! In the workshops of “Enriching Learning in Workplace with Technology” and “Micro-lesson for Workplace Learning” facilitated by CLT Project Officers, Ms Ciny Lau, Ms Wing Lau, Ms Cherrie Kung and Ms Charlotte Lee, participants had the chance to experience and make their teaching materials. On top of the insightful presentations, the colourful, innovative and cosy furniture in the Theatre also gave the audience a fresh feeling of learning environment!

The three-day Expo was very intensive and rewarding. I bet colleagues who visited the Expo would agree that it was an excellent platform for educators to keep themselves abreast of the education trend and innovative teaching ideas, and for professional exchange.
