About the Event :

Modern tourbillon watches embrace dexterous watch making and aesthetic skills. Watch craftsmanship is modernised by digitalisation and innovative concepts. Despite the rise of smart watches, the popularity of luxury timepieces remains. Memorigin as the first Hong Kong brand which only produces tourbillon values high quality and design. It has set up a research and development room for hosting top local tourbillon masters, designers and engineers to bring the Hong Kong watch industry to the international stage.

In this seminar, Mr Shum will share the research and development works conducted to modernise the production and design of tourbillon watches. Discussion on training the new generation of watchmakers will also be covered.

Founder & CEO, Memorigin Watch Company Limited

Mr William Shum is the founder and CEO of Memorigin Watch Company Limited. He graduated from Cornell University attaining his Masters degree, majoring in applied economics and management. He completed the Financial Risk Management (FRM) exams after coming back to Hong Kong and worked in investment banking for a year. He then started his entrepreneurship by utilising his in-house watch factory to create the first Hong Kong tourbillon brand - Memorigin. He has led Memorigin to attain numbers of awards and recognitions from the society such as 2011 Hong Kong Emerging Brand by CMAHK & HKBDC and champion of 2012 HSBC Youth Business Award. In particular, he was nominated and got the Young Industrialist Awards of Hong Kong in 2015 and Chinese Outstanding Youth in 2016. His brand Memorigin won the Hong Kong Top Brand 2019.

Seminar objectives:

  • Recognise the research and development works for modernising the production of tourbillion; and
  • Discuss the staff training and development in the watch industry and the challenges in nurturing new generation of watchmakers.
