About the Event :

This workshop explores practical techniques teachers can use to confidently deliver impactful and effective classroom presentations and short lectures. We'll look at strategies and activities to engage students right from the start by activating background knowledge. Presentation techniques for increasing understanding, note taking and memorability such as effective signposting, chunking, storytelling, the rule of 3, repetition and rhetorical questions, the ‘you' approach will be introduced and practised and ineffective presentation habits will be identified. We'll also explore effective PowerPoint design and visual communication methods in the workshop.

Facilitator(s) :

Mr Daniel Barlow, Teacher Trainer 

Daniel Barlow has over 20 years' experience in language and communication skills training and has been teaching and training in Hong Kong since 2000. Specialising in content and language integrated learning (CLIL) techniques, Daniel has extensive experience designing and delivering teacher training to tertiary teachers from Taiwan, Hong Kong and mainland China.

Intended Learning Outcomes :

Upon completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • structure and deliver effective and easy to follow classroom presentations and lectures;   
  • present more confidently and avoid common classroom presentation pitfalls; and
  • design and use PowerPoint as an effective teaching aid.
