About the Event :

Micro:bit is a tiny programmable computer, designed to make learning and teaching easy and fun!  This workshop aims to improve teachers' awareness and motivation around how coding tasks in the classroom can better engage learners and deliver subject content.   The facilitators will introduce participants to a variety of digital literacy activities that can be applied to their classroom and finally empower teachers with the basic skills and confidence to develop creative activities within their subject capacity.   

Participants will receive a certificate from British Council endorsed by Micro-bit.

Ms Louise Spratt

Ms Louise Spratt is the Micro:bit Master trainer from British Council, Spain.  She graduated from the University of Birmingham in Hispanic Studies BA (Spanish and Portuguese language and cultural studies). Since starting at the British Council Madrid in January 2018, she has taught Lower and Upper Secondary students to program with the BBC Micro:bit as part of the summer course, and delivered teacher training for local secondary teachers in Medellin in preparation for the Girl Power CodeFest Americas. Currently, she is running a Code Club as part of British Council´s English Extra programme for both Lower Secondary and Primary students and is a mentor for the Technovation Challenge, in which girls from around the world are inspired to solve real-world problems with technology by designing and building an app.

Intended Learning Outcomes :

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • use variables as a way to store and retrieve data;
  • use the basic micro:bit commands to create complex programs; and
  • design simple animation and icons to tell a story
