About the Event :

Emerged from the need to observe and document children's learning using mobile technology, a mobile application tool Learning Stories was created and implemented to better support student's learning both in classrooms and in the work field. Dr. Gorica will share the development of the mobile application tool through the collaboration between the faculty members and the Centre for Teaching and Learning at Sheridan. The participants will have the opportunity to use their mobiles (e.g. smart phones or iPad) to learn how to use the Learning Stories in the workshop. The implications of developing a mobile application tool for teaching and learning in other programmes will also be shared and discussed.

Facilitator(s) :

Dr. Yalin Gorica is a Professor of Early Childhood Education, who teaches both the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Diploma programme and the Early Childhood Leadership (ECL) Bachelor Degree programme at Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advance Learning in Ontario, Canada. Having worked with students from as young as toddlers to mature students at various colleges and institutes in Canada, Dr. Gorica not only understands broad issues regarding learners' developmental abilities and programme expectations, but has also designed, implemented and mentored many projects to help students succeed in their programmes. Dr. Gorica's research interests focus on internationalisation in higher education, social policy and management in early childhood, language development in young children and the use of technology in early childhood.
