About the Event :

The workshop will bring participants around the table to learn and play a unique board game as their base reference for their short design project. In groups, they will select from two different base games, after which they will embark on a simple game critiquing exercise. From their game critique, they will then brainstorm ideas on retheming the game based around their respective subject areas while staying true to the original game mechanic and develop a simple game concept and prototype before presenting to the group. It will close with a discussion on how game mechanics and components can be adapted to work within any educational context.

Vince is Managing Partner at Press Start Hong Kong, where he is responsible for business and partnership development, PR and marketing, and one of the instruction trainers on the Press Start Hong Kong team. With a professional background in the financial services and consulting sectors, as well as experience in educational curriculum development and teaching across different age groups, he is well equipped to work and communicate effectively with diverse cross-disciplinary teams and stakeholders. His extensive experience in Design Thinking, applying it as a methodology in client engagements, delivering co-creation workshops to clients and internal users, and facilitating hackathons within various communities, allows him to apply user-centric design methods to all kinds of projects.

Mr Clarence TAM  

Creative Consultant, Press Start Hong Kong 

Clarence is Design Consultant at Press Start Hong Kong, where he is responsible for visual and creative direction, game design and workshop facilitation. With a professional background in service design, visual arts, design thinking and consulting, he is experienced in facilitating workshops and project management across various industries.

Intended Learning Outcomes :

On the completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • identify the benefits and potential of games in learning and teaching; and  
  • adapt and apply the game design principles and the game design cycle to classrooms and lesson planning.
