About the Event :

The webinar will equip participants with knowledge and practical insights to optimise research data management throughout the data lifecycle. The FAIR (findability, accessibility, interoperability, and reusability) principles of research data will be introduced, along with practical skills, strategies, tools, and examples to enhance the quality of research data and to reduce the possible risk of data loss or leakage. Additionally, the use of data management plans to create comprehensive project plans and facilitate effective research data management will be discussed.

Mr Kevin Ho

Research Support Manager, HKUST Library

Mr Ho is a dedicated academic librarian at the Library of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), specialising in information literacy and research support. He focuses on cultivating essential information competencies among undergraduate students and provides guidance to postgraduate students in navigating the research process.

Mr Ho pursed his passion for library science at the University of Western Ontario where he earned his master's degree. As a research support manager, he has developed a keen interest in bibliometrics and impact, which plays a vital role in research assessment.

Mr Samson Choi

Librarian (Learning Support), HKUST

Mr Choi is an academic librarian at the HKUST Library, focuses on advancing information literacy and providing learning support. He develops key informational skills in undergraduate cohorts and supports postgraduate students throughout their research journeys.

Having earned his master's degree in information studies from Charles Sturt University, Mr Choi, as a Learning Support Librarian, passionately enhances e-learning within the Library to elevate student learning.

Objectives :

The webinar aims to raise participants' awareness on the significance of effective research data management and equip them with practical tools and strategies to handle the increasing volume of data in research projects. By doing so, participants will be able to enhance the quality and impact of their research endeavors.
