About the Event :

In this webinar, the speakers will provide an overview of the research methodologies, covering both quantitative and qualitative methods, as well as the concepts on paradigmatic research methodologies. The procedures for conducting actual research in different academic disciplines and the protocols researchers should follow to ensure quality and compliance will be covered. In particular, participants will gain knowledge on designing effective questionnaire surveys and employing case study method. The webinar will conclude with practical tips and examples on applying questionnaire surveys and case study methods.

Mr Derek CHUN and Mr Thomas YAU

Mr Derek Chun has worked as a researcher on social research, education, and youth development since 2010. He has participated in many research projects funded by different parties. Mr Chun is currently a Senior Research Assistant at The Education University of Hong Kong. His research interests include youth policy and development, the well-being of students and teachers, and VPET with the development of Vocational English. He has rich experience in handling research projects with different discipilines.

Mr Thomas Yau holds an MPhil degree in Applied English Linguistics from the Department of English, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Mr Yau has previously worked in various research positions and now he is pursuing his PhD degree. He is an active researcher in areas of applied linguistics and education, such as education policy, language-in-education policy, translanguaging, curriculum theory, philosophy in education, vocational education, technology-enhanced learning, and learning analytics.

Objectives :

The webinar aims to deepen participants' knowledge, skills and techniques on essential research methodologies, in particular, employing the research methods of questionnaire surveys and case studies, to empower them to conduct research in a more effective manner.
