About the Event :

The aim of this workshop is to train teachers design and implement contextual educational games. The participants could create game-based learning activities by integrating learning content into digital games. It could be an effective way of engaging students in contextual and joyful learning process.

Facilitator(s) :

Prof. Hui-Chun Chu , Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science and Information Management, Soochow University, Taiwan

Prof. Chu received her Ph.D. degree from of the Department of Information and Learning Technology at National University of Tainan in Taiwan in July, 2009. She serves as an editorial board member and a reviewer for more than 15 academic journals. Her research interests include mobile and ubiquitous learning, game-based learning, information technology-applied instructions, flipped learning and knowledge engineering in education. Prof. Chu has published more than 130 academic papers, including 50 academic journal papers, in which 29 papers are published in well-recognized SSCI journals. Owing to the distinguished academic performance and service in e-learning, she received the Annual Young Scholars Outstanding Researcher Award--Ta-You Wu Memorial Award from the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2014. In addition, she has been invited to serve as the chair of Taiwan “classroom, ubiquitous, and mobile technologies-enhanced learning” Special Interest Group (CUMTEL SIG)” since 2015 and the Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies (SSCI) since 2015. She has also served as the guest editor of Interactive Learning Environments (SSCI) in 2013 and 2016. Moreover, Prof. Chu received the reward of “The top 50 Flipped Learning leaders in higher education worldwide” in 2018. 

Intended Learning Outcomes :

Upon completion of this seminar, the participants will be able to:

● develop contextual educational games using the tools introduced in the workshop; and

● integrate learning content into digital gaming contexts.
