About the Event :

Cooperative learning is an instructional strategy that can be used by teachers to facilitate student learning through structured group works. This seminar provides a brief overview of the key elements of cooperative learning and introduces some cooperative learning strategies that can be adopted by teachers to enhance student learning.

Miss TSANG Ching Hann, Jannie

Miss Jannie Tsang is the Project Consultant of the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT), and the Guest Lecturer of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the Education University of Hong Kong. She is also a freelance writer of English teaching materials for local publishers. Before joining the University, she was a Vice-Principal of an EMI secondary school in Hong Kong. At the Education University of Hong Kong, she has been teaching the undergraduate programmes on education theories, teaching pedagogies, classroom management, Learning Study, teaching innovations, and professional and vocational programmes. Apart from undergraduate programmes, she teaches professional development courses for the in-service teachers in Hong Kong and Macau. With her rich experience at the frontline, she does not only provide consultancy support services on English Language teaching at local schools but also conducts professional development seminars and workshops on themes like “cooperative learning”, “self-regulated learning”, “e-Learning”, “questioning techniques”, “small class teaching”, and “lesson observation and conferencing skills” for a number of primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong and Macau.

Miss LEUNG Kit Yan 

Miss Kit Yan Leung is the Assistant Project Manager of the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching at the Education University of Hong Kong. She has over 11 years of teaching experience at the University. She teaches professional development courses for in-services teachers and principals in Hong Kong, Macau, Nanjing and Sichuan. In the past ten years, she has conducted workshops and seminars on the themes of “cooperative learning”, “self-regulated learning”, “small class teaching”, “questioning techniques” and “e-learning” for Hong Kong and Macau primary and secondary schools. Miss Leung also participates actively in educational research on “small class teaching”, “small schools”, “civic education”, and “self-regulated learning”.

Intended Learning Outcomes :

Upon completion of the seminar, participants would be able to:

  • identify the key elements of cooperative learning and how to incorporate them into designing learning activities;  
  • distinguish the differences between group tasks and cooperative learning tasks; and   
  • apply some basic cooperative learning strategies in conducting cooperative learning activities.
