About the Event :

For most people, learning to read and write is a smooth process; however, some students have difficulties in acquiring functional reading and writing skills. Some common signs of reading and writing difficulties include slow reading, mixing up letters in words and incomprehension of texts. More effort and extra work are required in their learning process. Fortunately, the development of assistive technology, such as Microsoft Learning Tools, provides alternatives to learn and improve learning effectiveness of students with reading and writing difficulties.

The seminar aims to enhance participants' awareness of the challenges faced by students with reading and writing difficulties and introduce various common assistive technology tools to them. Participants will have the opportunity to try out the tools which can be used to support student learning.

Intended Learning Outcomes :

Upon the completion of the workshop, the participants would be able to:

  • describe the characteristics of students with reading and writing difficulties; and 
  • identify and use various common assistive technology tools which could help students improve their reading and writing effectiveness.
