About the Event :

This workshop will provide hands-on practices for participants to design and develop mobile interactive learning activities by incorporating Instant Response System (IRS) into blended learning environment. By doing so, students' learning effectiveness would be improved and students' critical and reflective thinking would be enhanced.

Facilitator(s) :

Prof. Hui-Chun Chu received her Ph.D. degree from of the Department of Information and Learning Technology at National University of Tainan in Taiwan in July, 2009. She serves as an editorial board member and a reviewer for more than 15 academic journals. Her research interests include mobile and ubiquitous learning, game-based learning, information technology-applied instructions, flipped learning and knowledge engineering in education. Prof. Chu has published more than 100 academic papers, including 50 academic journal papers, in which 23 papers were published in well-recognized SSCI journals. Owing to the distinguished academic performance and service in e-learning, she received the Annual Young Scholars Outstanding Researcher Award--Ta-You Wu Memorial Award from the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2014. In addition, she has been invited to serve as the chair of Taiwan “classroom, ubiquitous, and mobile technologies-enhanced learning” Special Interest Group (CUMTEL SIG)” since 2015 and the Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies (SSCI) since 2013. She has also served as the guest editor of Interactive Learning Environments (SSCI) in 2013 and 2016.

Intended Learning Outcomes :

Upon the completion of the workshop, the participants would be able to:

  • design an effective blended-mobile learning activities by incorporating Instant Response System (IRS) to motivate students' learning; and
  • apply the skills and strategies in designing learning activities to engage students in critical and reflective thinking.
