About the Event :

Written tests and examinations are some of the most commonly used assessment methods in our institutions. To enable teaching staff to reflect on their own practice, the Centre for Learning and Teaching (CLT) has invited facilitators from the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) to share expertise in designing written tests/examinations and bring insights to our assessment practice.

The major topics covered in this workshop include:  

  • Assessment principles and design   
  • Assessment mode and method  
  • Principles and considerations for designing written tests/examinations 
  • Types and application of marking schemes  
  • Pre- and post- assessment moderation  

This is a full day workshop comprises two 3-hour parts. Registered participants must attend BOTH parts.

Facilitator(s) :

The Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) is an independent, self-funding and not-for-profit statutory body. Its main role is to conduct the HKDSE examinations. It also administers over 200 examinations leading to academic, professional or practical qualifications on behalf of international examining bodies and local professional bodies.

Other than assessment development and administering examinations, the HKEAA also provides assessment literacy and professional trainings for secondary school teachers. These trainings aim to enable teachers to get a better understanding of concepts and principles of assessment. Good practices and experience obtained in the implementation of HKDSE examination will be shared in order to facilitate learning and teaching.

Dr KEUNG Mi Li, Merry

Dr Keung is currently a Senior Manager in the Assessment Development Division of the HKEAA. She has been engaged in developing language and other assessments since she joined the HKEAA. Dr Keung has also been responsible for coordinating an assessment literacy training programme to secondary school teachers and is now responsible for the assessment and administration of Applied Learning subjects under the HKDSE.

Mr MAK Hon Lung, Issac  

Mr. Mak is currently a Manager in the Assessment Development Division of the HKEAA. For HKDSE, Mr Mak has worked on the assessment of Mathematics, Physics and some Applied Learning subjects, he is also involved in the administration of the School-based Assessment and the special examination arrangements. 

Dr YEUNG Wing Yu, Hans  

Dr Yeung is currently a Manager in the Assessment Development Division of the HKEAA. He is responsible for the development and assessment of History. 

Intended Learning Outcomes :

Upon the completion of the workshop, participants are expected to be able to:

  • demonstrate an understanding of the principles and considerations for designing written tests/examinations; 
  • design quality written tests/examinations; 
  • design assessment tools that well-suited to the relevant assessment mode; 
  • explain moderation in terms of its contribution to a quality assured assessment system; and 
  • review existing assessment practice in terms of its design and implementation. 

Target Audience :

All teaching staff in the VTC, especially for those who are involved in designing, developing and implementing assessment.
