About the Event :

In-depth and detailed analysis on specific context is adopted in case study research. The typically qualitative nature and the narrative description of experiences of case study research allow researchers to explore the context in various aspects and develop holistic understanding towards the context. Narrowly focused, high level of detail, inclusive of objective and subjective data are the major characteristics of case study research.

During the workshop, characteristics of case study method, and skills and techniques of data analysis will be mentioned. Data analysing skills and techniques of case study research will be illustrated. Application of case study method in school/institution context will be discussed.

Senior Research Assistant, Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching, The Education University of Hong Kong 

Mr Derek Chun has been conducted research on education and youth development since 2010. He has participated in research projects funded by various funding parties. He is experienced in conducting research with qualitative and case study methods. Mr Chun is currently the Senior Research Assistant of Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching of The Education University of Hong Kong. His research interests include education research, career development, youth development, emotional health of teachers, and vocational and professional education and training.

Intended Learning Outcomes :

On completion of the workshop, participants would be able to:

• describe the characteristics of case study method;

• identify skills and techniques of data analysis for case study research method; and

• illustrate the application of case study research method in school/institution-related research.
